Knowledge is Light

Dear WBM parents
This website is a culmination of many hours of hard work and dedication. While it is an ongoing process, we are extremely proud to have it up and running as of 1 November 2021.

Comments, suggestions and feedback are always welcome in the spirit of growth and development.

Mission and Aims

Wynberg Boys’ Madrassah is committed to giving its students a holistic education that is compatible with Islamic Principles and Practices.

Our main aim is to awaken in learners a consciousness and love of Allah (SWT) and His beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and then to train them to fulfil their obligation to serve Allah (SWT) in the manner He has prescribed.

We also strive to nurture our learners towards the best moral and social conduct, and to encourage tolerant behaviour and attitudes towards others.
With Allah (SWT’s) guidance, we would like to produce a caring, well-balanced enlightened and empowered Muslim who will contribute to the well-being of society and mankind, In Sha Allah.

About Us

A request for Madrassah classes at the school by a number of parents prompted an interim programme, which started in term 4 of 2008 with just 12 eager learners and a parent volunteer (an ex-educator) teaching the boys.

This programme, advised by the WBJS Governing Body, was to gauge feasibility of, and need for, running an extra-mural of this nature. Classes took place in a room at the Wynberg Boys’ Junior School’s swimming pavilion.

It was a success and Wynberg Boys’ Madrassah was founded. The first official classes started in January 2009 and since then, our roll annually stands at   80-100 learners.

“There were six Muslim parents who approached Mr. Hart (the principal of WBJS at the time) to discuss having Madrassah classes at school on the days boys didn’t have sports training and/or extra murals. With his approval, things were set into motion to start WBM.                                      The Madrassah has always been very close to my heart, even after I stopped being a part of it. I am proud of the way it has grown over the years and I make duah for its continuous prosperity, Ameen.”

Curriculum

We focus on five subjects: Recitation, Aqeedah, Aqhlaaq, Fiqh and History. To teach recitation of the Qur’aan and all subjects, the Madrassah uses the Surah and textbooks of the Imam al-Ghazali series. The Surah consists of two parts and covers the Arabic Alphabet and Tajweed rules.

The Madrassah primarily uses this series to cover the subjects and also supplements with additional resource material. Our syllabus is unique in that it is designed around our learners and our school’s requirements and extra-mural timetable.
